Must be doing something right!

I'm so happy to inform you that one of the seven pots I planted sunflower seeds in has sprouted!

First signs of life!

I'm so excited! I can't wait for the others to sprout! I really thought it was going to be like another week or so before we could see any action, but I am glad that we don't have to wait much longer!
As, I have said before, Take that Black thumb!!

Who Knew?

I'm so proud of my new found green thumb! I love being out in the garden, regardless of the heat. The flowers are doing great! One of the sunflowers in about it have its first bloom, which makes us all very excited! This morning I was out there cleaning it up some and putting some more garden soil down when I noticed that some of the other flowers will be blooming soon too! The sunflower seeds haven't sprouted yet, should be another week I think. I should have marked the calendar when I planted them, but I didn't. I would really like to dress up the garden some more though. Add in a few decorations or something. I have three butterflies stakes and a fence around it. It needs more.
It's funny how something that didn't interest you at all in your younger days peaks your interest now that you're pushing thirty. I've never been one to spend time in a garden, much less get something to actually grow.  I'm the mom who actually enjoys being in the kitchen. But I really enjoy being outside in the garden. I'm sure most of that has to do with the fact that everything has been surviving. But I'll take it. And who knows, maybe one day our little flower garden will look as beautiful as the gardens in the ritzy neighborhoods where they hire someone to do it for them.

Flower Power

I am so proud! The rose bulb that I planted is really starting to come up! Which of course makes me super excited because, just like with the sunflowers, it was basically just a seed and now it's getting so big! I love it!

Also, this morning when the kids and I were heading out the door for school, Brooke noticed that I sunflower had lost its petals and she was upset about it. I told her it would come back though, which made her happy again.

Our second sunflower is getting ready to present us with its first bloom, but the other flowers in the garden don't seem to be doing as well. It's kind of hard to tell really. We all know I'm no expert in the area of gardening. I am very proud of what we have accomplished thus far though. So are the kids, especially Brooke. She's such a flower child.

Also, here is a pic of the sunflowers I am helping Paige grow.

Paige is very proud.

Take that Black Thumb!

In general, I suck at growing anything beautiful in a garden. I try, really hard, but somehow for some unknown reason - Everything ends up dead. It's really quite sad. However, my mom gave us some sunflower seeds and what do you think happened to those poor defensless seeds? They grew! Hell yeah! And they are still growing! One of them has what appears to be the makings of a beautiful flower on it! It's so exciting!
So I say, "Take that Black Thumb!"

Here's a pic so you can see how tall they have gotten.

And one so you can see the magic that is taking place!

The kids have been so great at helping to make sure we water the plants everyday. Brooke is especially excited to see one starting to bloom. And everyday after school she reminds me that the flowers are as tall as bean stalks! God she is too cute!
